For more great information on
puppets, marionettes be sure to visit their wonderfully organized and
comprehensive pages!
"Marionettes love to tangle their strings and they are very good at it!
However untangling them is not difficult.
|
-
Untangle the strings on the control and the puppet so they fall properly and
are not wrapped around any part of the puppet or control. This leaves a loose
"knot" in the strings between the control and the puppet.
-
If there is a detachable leg
bar, work it free so the leg strings are completely removed
from the "knot". Put the leg bar on the floor
where it won't get tangled again.
-
Untangle the string to the puppet's
seat so it is clear from the control to the puppet.
-
Using this string as the pivot, rotate the control one way or the other to
untwist the rest of the strings.
It's that simple.
Professional puppeteers always store marionettes in cloth
bags with drawstrings. Sometimes a large pocket is attached
to the side of the bag to hold the control.
Wind the strings around the control by gathering all of
them in one hand, then carefully winding them around the
control. Place the control on top (or into the side pocket)
of the bag. To unwind the strings, again, grab them all
and unwind completely before checking the strings are hanging
correctly from the control and the puppet.
I usually don't wind the strings. Instead IElay the bagged
puppet in the bottom of the case and fold the control back
over the top. A large piece of cloth covers the control
before the next bagged puppet is placed on top. When unpacking,
I simply reverse the procedure.Tangled
strings are not a problem unless the case has been violently
shaken from side to side."
Good luck.
