This is a typical rendition of the Czech Devil as he appears in folk tales and stories.
He has a classic marionette skeleton of wood, notice that his shoes are also carved from wood. His hands and face are cast out of a unique plaster like compound then meticulously hand-painted. Notice the attention to detail - patchwork clothes, hair, and accessories.
