Manicka was made by Gustav Nosek based on a design of Professor Skupa and Jiri Trnka. Manicka's first play was "Hurvínek's Spring Revue" which was premiered in April 1930 (since April 30, 1930 it has been performed under the name "Shotgun Revue"). The first actor to perform the role of Manicka was Anna Kreuzmannová. After trying several designs, the figure of Manicka designed by Zdenek Jurena proved to be best and has been used until the present.
